It’s the Location Land Rush!
I’m about to give up on my Google Reader - i’ve done my best to keep on top of the “unread” messages but when you go overseas for 10 days and aren’t online 24/7, it just swamps you. I guess i can just mark all as read but i hate doing that as you never know what gem of an article you’ll be throwing into the waste bin.
In any case, i did manage to get across a slice of my usual article reading diet and came across this from TechCrunch: The Great Location Land Rush Of 2010 which sums us the emerging sector. This space we’re working on is moving very quickly and some very exciting things are coming out of it. It’s interesting to note that there are both new and old (well 3 to 4 years old, that’s old) moving and shaking things up. Just because someone’s had a head start doesn’t mean that you can’t compete, let alone succeed in this space. Actually, we think for new players, the emergence of smartphone ubiquity and affordability of data plans in 2009 has mean that precious funding hasn’t been wasted in the early years trying to bring a service to the market when it wasn’t ready for it. There simply wasn’t enough critical mass to support location based services before 2009 (maybe Japan and South Korea), both in technology hardware and user familiarity or adoption.
We’re excited by what Axle8 will deliver to both consumers and marketers in 2010 - no need for cliché techno babble or cool talk here - we will be releasing more information on our service on a regular basis and invite you to keep checking in on us. Until then, Merry X’Mas and a Happy New Year!
