Software Development Internship - yes, it’s paid.

Do you share our passion for excellence, solving problems, and creating great user experiences?

Do you love working on many aspects of software development, including brainstorming, design, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and support?

Do you have a good understanding of both server-side and client-side development, and believe that it’s important that they be approached in concert?

Do you love to get stuff done? Do you like being challenged? Do you like working in a small team in a start-up environment?

Do you know some parts of RFC 2616 by heart?

Axle8 is seeking adventurous and technically capable undergrad and postgrad students to be part of a start-up working on a real time proxmity based marketing platform for businesses, organisations and individuals.


What you’ll be doing:

1. Developing cutting edge mobile phone and/or web-based interfaces for location-based services
2. Developing back-end applications and databases to support mobile phone services

What we’re looking for:

1. We’re using Java and relational databases so if you have proficiency, we’re interested.
2. Teamwork experience from work, university or extra-curricular activities.
3. Flexibility, willingness to learn new skills.
4. Exceptionally motivated, self starter, strong work ethic.
5. Willing to follow directions, but also able to think independently.
6. Familiarity with software development activities (either through studies or experience) including analysis, design, development & unit testing, testing and implementation.
7. Excellent communication skills
8. Love the web. Design and build great software.

What would be a bonus:

1. Experience with technology projects.
2. Understanding of agile and fast-paced software development methods.
3. Java Enterprise Edition experience, specifically servlets, the Java Persistence API and Java Application Servers.
4. Experience working for small / startup organisations.
5. Experience with open source / free software.
6. Experience or understanding of geospatial applications, rules engines, data mining and/or business intelligence.

Time commitment we’ll need:

* Available at least 16 hours per week during uni terms, preferably as 2 solid days per week.
* Available at least 32 hours per week during February.
